MEMP Gatherings & Community Network

MEMP Gatherings

MEMP organises regular workshops for members, known as MEMP Gatherings, to foster trust and build relationships between multicultural communities and the Emergency Management sectors. These gatherings are more than just information-sharing events; they are opportunities to hear from multicultural community leaders and connectors about their experiences during emergencies and disasters, emphasising the importance of building connections in peacetime rather than wartime.

As strength-based, community-centred forums, the monthly gatherings are planned with community discussion at the forefront. The structure of the meetings is consciously designed to be informal, providing ample room for open and meaningful conversations. These events also serve as networking and community connection opportunities, helping to strengthen ties and ensure that diverse voices are heard and valued.

MEMP Community Network

Beyond the current membership, MEMP aims to engage and strengthen a growing community of multicultural leaders, community connectors, and service providers who are interested in connecting, learning, and working together to build community trust and resilience. MEMP leverages various social media platforms to expand this network, ensuring that more voices can join the conversation and contribute to our collective efforts.

“Emergency preparedness starts with the premise of shared responsibility. For this principle to be fully realised, Victorian communities – in all their diversity – need support to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. For this support to be effective, it needs to be culturally responsive, context specific, community-led and strengths-based.”
