The MEMP MODEL

The MEMP Model provides a framework for ongoing collaboration between the emergency management sector and multicultural leaders and connectors.

The Model was developed through curated engagement between members in a culturally safe space to explore issues and opportunities. It enabled the building of strong relationships and significant trust between members. The co-design process included the following principles:

  • Peer-to-peer learning: communities as experts in their own lives

  • Do-no-harm

  • Asset-Based-Community-Development

  • Racial and cultural equity

  • Intersectionality

  • Shared responsibility

  • Community-led/community-based resilience

  • Building on community strengths

  • Valuing volunteers

The MEMP uses its Model in all its work.

The MEMP acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout our nation, and pays respect to Elders past and present. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ connections to land, sea and community, and respect their cultural, spiritual and educational practices.

The MEMP recognises and celebrates the extraordinary cultural richness and diversity of our communities and workplaces. The MEMP is committed to inclusiveness, respect and cultural safety.
