Our membership consists of community leaders and connectors from diverse multicultural communities, including newly arrived migrant and refugee communities and representatives from key Victorian emergency management agencies and organisations. This membership spans rural, regional, and metropolitan areas, covering a broad spectrum of the emergency management sector.

Co-Chairs

​The MEMP is Co-Chaired by one representative from multicultural communities and one from the emergency management sector, elected annually. Their responsibilities include providing strategic direction and leadership to enhance community resilience and cultural safety, co-chairing MEMP monthly gatherings and weekly support group meetings with a focus on community discussion, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Co-Chairs support newly arrived communities, ensure diverse voices are heard, and address systemic barriers.

Richard Ogetii (Co-Chair Community Advisors): Richard is a Kenyan community leader, the CEO of the Albury Wodonga Ethnic Communities Council and a passionate advocate for MEMP.

Ruth Harley (Emergency Service Organisations): With over two decades of experience working with Multicultural communities, Ruth is the Cultural Engagement Advisor at Fire Rescue Victoria.

The MEMP acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout our nation, and pays respect to Elders past and present. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ connections to land, sea and community, and respect their cultural, spiritual and educational practices.

The MEMP recognises and celebrates the extraordinary cultural richness and diversity of our communities and workplaces. The MEMP is committed to inclusiveness, respect and cultural safety.
